History
Lake Erie Community Federal Credit Union was originally chartered as the Toymakers Federal Credit Union in 1948 to serve the employees of Marx Toys and their family members. In 1980, after Marx was bought by Quaker Oats, the parent company filed bankruptcy and the Marx Toys plant in Girard was closed. Under the leadership of the credit union manager, and the Board of Directors, the credit union was re-chartered as a community credit union, open to serve its existing members and the Girard and Lake City communities.
Although we have seen many changes over the years, we continue to maintain the principles of service that we were founded on in 1948. Every member has a “share” in the credit union. We are member owned and operated, and every member has a vote and a voice in the operations. Our profits are returned back to the members in the form of dividends. Often you’ll find that our interest rates on loans and fees for services are lower than many other institutions.
